Painting in Progress

A title for this one eludes me at the moment, but it sure is a fun one to do so far!!!  I needed to do something different, and painting a water/turtle scene seemed the right thing to do today!!!  this is two sessions so far, hour and a half or so for the first one, 45 for the second, top , above the long for the first, and the log on down for the second.  I do have the turtles blocked in, but I did that after this photo.

When I am standing up close and personal to the painting, I never really know just how it looks as a whole, because i see the individual parts that I have worked on.  Stepping back about 20 feet seems to do the trick, as far as letting my eyes see the whole picture.  There's plenty to do on this one yet.  the wood log certainly needs more work, and then of course, putting its reflection in, spreading the rocks toward the turtle that is in the water, adding i more reflections everywhere, and the obvious, finishing the turtles.  a couple more sessions and i may complete it.  the turtles are going to be quite detailed, so that session will be turtley-consumed with turtle detail.  :)  I can't wait, but I may not get to it tomorrow.....Here's to trying though!

Catching the last rays

Hyalite Lake  acrylic on canvas (c) RLHuff 2012
Catching the last rays was a fun challenge to do, and I have a little extra to add to the picture.  Adding in a turtle to this painting really made the picture, I think.  That's the nice thing about a painting, if I want a turtle in the lake on a log, I can certainly put it in!!  :)  This picture makes me really want to get up to the lake! but it needs to warm up a touch (the high today was supposed to be less than 50....!!!), so....  I will have to enjoy it from the canvas view until it's a little warmer!!  :)

I have a few fond memories of this lake, and am hoping to get a few more paintings from the area as well!  :)  who knows what I will see when I take my camera and my kids with me for the first time to visit!  :)

Horse at creek at sunset

Horse at creek at sunset

That's a lame title, but that's all I have for now!!  This was a fun challenge to do, because there's no direct light exactly.  Perhaps just a touch of light, causing the trees to glisten a bit, and put some light on the horse.  The painting needs a couple touchups and then it will be done as well.  I just love adding water to a painting, although, sometimes, putting in a shadow/reflection of something upside down, which means, the underside of the animal, in this case, can be a bit challenging.  so, sometimes, we just soften that a bit so it'snot so important in the painting.  that seems to work here.  I originally had a duck in the painting too, but that seemed too much.

You can tell I LOVE green, because so many of mine are summer, although fall is fun.  Painting this when it's not all green out makes me feel at least like there's some green happening!  This is the type of place I just love to sit and watch.....

This painting is 12x24, acrylic on canvas, of course!  :)

YES, I have been working!!!

YES, I HAVE been working!!! :)  It seems my poor blog has been quite neglected in past months.

I did teach art lessons, 2 classes, once a week for a little over two months.  It was SO fantastic to watch all age ranges to grow during that time!!  Their art made such improvements that I was SOOOO amazed!!

As for myself, I even took an art class with Susan Blackwood!!  talk about such a blessing!!!  I took a 'water' painting class and learned so much, and found out that yes, I can paint underwater rocks...  :)  The above painting is "abandon"< I think, I am not sure I may change the title.  Or maybe I will just add in a lonely turtle in the water, not sure!  but this was sure a fun one to do.  I have a few modifications to do yet, though......I will work harder to keep posting here!  this one, by the way, is 16x20.

Until the next posting, have a creative day!
